Saving Cats from Predation...One purr at a time
At Pooka’s Purrhouse Rescue, our mission is to protect and rehabilitate cats who are at risk from outdoor dangers — especially predation from coyotes and other wildlife. We are dedicated to rescuing vulnerable cats from life-threatening situations and giving them a safe, stable environment where they can decompress, heal, and rediscover trust.
We specialize in helping cats who fall through the cracks: those abandoned, displaced, or struggling to survive on the streets. With patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of feline behavior, we provide medical care, emotional support, and thoughtfully structured placements that prioritize long-term safety.
Our work includes raising awareness in the community about the very real threats of predation and the importance of securing cats who cannot safely live outdoors. Every rescue represents months of effort, collaboration, and love — a testament to the belief that their lives matter.
At Pooka’s Purrhouse, we stand for second chances, compassionate rescue, and the unwavering commitment to keep cats safe from harm — one life at a time.
Flow is a resilient two-year-old black cat who’s overcome a lot. Rescued from coyote-ridden streets and returned to us after being abandoned, he’s now safe in our care. Though shy at first, Flow shows he can form gentle bonds and just needs a patient, compassionate person to help him thrive. We’re open to a carefully selected indoor-outdoor or working-cat situation that suits his needs. He’s one of our current fosters looking for a peaceful forever home where he can finally feel secure.
Nimbus began his journey as a quiet little wanderer on the streets, and we’re pretty sure he’s a Russian Blue mix, given his distinctive looks and calm personality. Although we can’t be certain, his physical traits and gentle demeanor make us believe he has a touch of that Russian Blue charm.
Nimbus was found sitting quietly in gutters and streets, unsure of how to navigate the outdoors. With coyote season approaching, we knew he needed a safe haven, and we rescued him just in time. Now, he’s taking his sweet, calm time adjusting to indoor life. He’s incredibly gentle, not bothered by other cats, and full of potential to become a devoted human companion. We’re confident that with a little patience, Nimbus will blossom into a wonderful friend for someone special.
Weasley is truly the star of Pooka’s Purrhouse. He’s the one we’ve spent countless hours with, and he purrs like nobody’s business. Playful, sprightly, and always ready to rub up against you for attention, Weasley is the quintessential cat. He balances his playful moments with cozy naps and affectionate purring sessions, making him an absolute joy to be around. In short, he’s the heart of our rescue, and he’s ready to be the heart of your home too (although admittedly, it's going to be REAL hard to let this little ray of Sunshine go.)
We patiently earn the cat’s trust outdoors over weeks or months so they feel safe returning to the same spot, allowing us to bring them to safety calmly. This can take months.
We let the cat get used to the trap first, allowing them to enter it freely a few times before we gently complete the capture. If they go in about 2-3 times and they come back, we've got them secure.
They are super stressed at capture. Just after we secure them, we give them a quiet, warm space to decompress, reducing stress and ensuring they feel secure until we can get them neutered, vaxxed, and microchipped.
We handle their medical needs and provide a soothing, heated environment with soft music, calming agents, and gentle interaction until they’re ready for their forever home.
